BBC Olympics "Making Of"

Client: BBC Worldwide
Brand: BBC

Making First Steps is a 10 minute documentary, produced by Red Bee Media for BBC 2012 and directed by award-winning film maker Grant Gee. It records the story behind the creation of Elbow’s Olympic theme, First Steps, and the BBC 2012’s animated Stadium UK title sequences and marketing campaign.

Drive credit back to the BBC for commissioning Elbow, one of the biggest bands in Britain, to specially compose the Olympic theme tune, First Steps. There was no promotional airtime available.

On behalf of the BBC, Red Bee gained exclusive access to Elbow, recordings with the BBC Philharmonic, First Steps Gospel Choir and animation director Pete Candeland at Passion Pictures, and produced a ten minute documentary for the BBC to play out during the coverage and online.

A gripping, funny and intimate documentary that tells the story of the creation of Elbow’s incredible Olympic theme. Produced by Red Bee’s Sarah Caddy (BBC Olympics 2012 campaign, Patience (after Sebald)). Directed by multi-award winning documentary maker Grant Gee (Radiohead: Meeting People is Easy, Joy Division, Gorillaz: Demon Days, Patience (after Sebald)).
