Virgin Galactic is set to be the world’s first commercial spaceline and came to Start to design the livery for their first spacecraft. The Virgin Galactic brand identity had already been created by GBH, in conjunction with Philippe Starck.
Naturally, our design had to reflect the pioneering nature of the craft themselves and of the whole project and deliver a powerful brand statement. To achieve this, we replaced the classic Virgin red with black and silver, though there remained subtle references to their other pioneering aircraft – the Virgin Atlantic fleet – in the full name logotype, the shape of the tailfin and the flying lady (now wearing a spacesuit).
Since the first liveries for the spacecrafts were delivered, we’ve continued to work closely with Virgin Galactic on their brand communications and are looking forward to the their first flight with passengers.
