Reimagining the digital heart of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World

Our challenge
Pottermore is the digital entertainment, news and e-commerce company from J.K. Rowling, inspired by the Harry Potter books and the wider ‘Wizarding World’. We were asked to reimagine the digital experience to serve, expand and delight the global Potter community.

What we did
We created an overarching digital strategy, developed a freshly-crafted digital brand toolkit and collaboratively planned, designed and built an online digital experience that will grow and evolve as J.K. Rowling continues to expand her magical universe.

The website’s creative direction, layout and use of typography takes cues from traditional book styling, while provoking further imagination and intrigue through the use of illustration, animated pictograms and a complex colour coding system inspired by J.K. Rowling’s writing.

How did we do?
Launched in early September with new writing from J.K. Rowling on Harry Potter’s ancestry, the site clocked up over 1 million unique visits in the first week alone and gained press globally from the likes of CNN, Mashable, BuzzFeed and Time.
