Intelligence

Tropical Sun sources and sells a wide range of authentic tropical foods, from sauces and seasonings, to meat, fish and vegetables. All ingredients are sourced from local farmers in market.  The brand operates in a niche ethnic market.

Interrogation

Tropical Sun know that once consumers try their product they are hooked – so the key is to get the product into people’s hands. We were briefed to achieve this, while underpinning Tropical Sun’s authentic and
vibrant Caribbean personality.

Insight

The default strategy would have been to set up in-store
product tastings. However, these events are rarely special or memorable – they may give a sample of a single product, but do they not give a taste of the whole brand. Instead, we created a vending machine, sitting on a real Caribbean beach, stocked with real products, waiting to be activated by UK customers from the comfort of their own homes. Through a ‘live feed’ webcam, consumers could
view that day’s products and then use a credit to make their choice. The vending machine picked up the chosen product before their eyes and dropped it into the dispenser, which was then collected by a Tropical Sun employee and despatched. When the package arrived at the consumer’s home, the Caribbean feel was continued with a free ‘friendship’ bracelet and even traces of sand.

visitors to the Tropical Sun website
